How to Make Marshmallow Fluff

Homemade Marshmallow Fluff recipe for delicious desserts and cakes! Just some basic ingredients to begin with, such as Marshmallow Fluff, softened butter, vanilla, & sugar create this absolutely yummy icing! For my latest iced coffee cakes, I decided wanted to make use of Marshmallow Frosting for the fresh and delicious flavor. This particular frosting recipe has a slight hint of marshmallow behind it, however it also has a sweet marshmallow flavor that is not too sweet, making it perfect for my iced coffee cakes. I have also created this frosting for making angel food & sponge cakes. I have enjoyed every spoonful of it, and it adds so much flavor and texture to the cakes, that it is difficult to stop eating them.

Marshmallow Fluff can be created by using all white or a combination of pale white and ivory colored butter. I prefer to create the consistency of thick and rich pudding batter. Using a stick blender or food processor will help create a smooth and creamy frosting, and ensure that you don't over process the mixture. You should let the Marshmallow Fluff mixture cool down completely before you add it to the refrigerator. Once the cold dessert is in it's original container, you can put it into the freezer for a couple of hours to allow the mixture to solidify.

If you are using a hand mixer, then it is really easy to create this delicious and eye-catching dessert. First of all, you will need a bowl that has a lid and which is made from plastic. Using a stick or whisk, whip the cream until it reaches its maximum density. Once you have reached your desired density, then simply transfer the frosting into your desired bowl. For my simple piping designs, I prefer to pipe the cream into the bowls with a large pointed nose.

Another great addition to homemade frosting is fondant. This is created using cream cheese, icing sugar and marshmallows. I personally prefer to make the fondant smooth, so once it's melted, I pipe it along the base of each one of my cakes. The last ingredient in this recipe for marshmallow fluff is butter. I personally prefer a slightly cold melt-able butter because it gives the finished product a little more flexibility. If you prefer a smooth consistency, then you may also consider using shortening, regular butter or even margarine. If you choose to use butter, make sure that it is very cold when you add it to the recipe. Adding butter without freezing it first can produce inconsistent and uneven frosting.

The frosting recipe will state whether or not you need to beat the egg white or the yolks, but in my experience, beating the egg whites gives the finished product a light, fluffy consistency that is highly desirable. If you're going to add the sugar, it is preferable to beat it separately from the egg whites, as the added sugar will make the recipe much richer and smooth. Once the fluff is made, it should be stored in an airtight container. My personal preference is to leave the frosting in the refrigerator, but if you store it longer, it may solidify.

Marshmallow fluff just isn't the same without a piping bag and a mixer bowl. When creating the recipe, it is recommended that you use a teaspoon for bolder flavors and a half teaspoon for softer more delicate flavors. If you do not have a piping bag or a mixing bowl, simply mix all of your ingredients together in a mixing bowl and press on the paddle attachment to create a smooth and creamy frosting. Pipe some on baked treats, use a cookie cutter to shape cookies or use a food color spoon for green, orange, brown or black frosting. Baking soda can be used to lightly brown sugar balls and create fondant flowers for flower bouquets.


If you have a fondant icing station at home, try rolling out coconut pieces to add a unique texture and rich flavor to your baked treats. If you prefer to do things cold, simply heat up a medium bowl of milk and add two teaspoons of the powdered coconut extract. Next, add one tablespoon of the coconut milk powder, one tablespoon of the sugar, one tablespoon of the flaxseed oil and one tablespoon of the vanilla extract. Once blended, stir in the chopped almonds and last but not least, sprinkle in a generous portion of the flaxseed oil.
